KUALA LUMPUR – Following the prolonged cellular service disruption in Kampung Salang, Pulau Tioman, which has lasted over 10 days, the Pahang government has called on Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to implement stronger enforcement measures.
In a statement issued today, Fadzli Mohamad Kamal, the Chairman of Pahang’s Communications and Multimedia, Youth, Sports, and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee revealed that local leaders had raised concerns over the failure of telecommunications companies to restore services, despite the outage beginning on December 17.
He emphasised that such disruptions to essential services should not be overlooked, particularly when they impact public safety, economic activities, and the well-being of the community.
“The welfare of the people must be prioritised, especially when it comes to access to basic communication services, which are fundamental for safety and daily life,” he said.
The disruption has been exacerbated by unpredictable weather in Pahang, including recent floods in some parts of Pulau Tioman. Fadzli urged the relevant authorities to take swift action to prevent further disruptions.
“I urge Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and MCMC to enforce stricter regulations in accordance with the law, ensuring that telecommunications companies act responsibly and promptly address service issues in Tioman and other rural areas across Pahang,” he added. – December 28, 2025
