KUALA LUMPUR – The suspect who allegedly detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, does not appear to have any links to extremist groups, Bukit Aman said.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said the suspect is currently receiving treatment in hospital and investigations so far have not uncovered any extremist elements.

“He is still being held at the hospital. At this stage, no extremist elements have been identified.

“This appears to be an isolated incident and is not linked to any groups or organisations,” he said at a press conference today.

Kumar added that police are continuing investigations to determine the motive behind the making of the explosive device and whether any other individuals were involved.

Previously, Negeri Sembilan police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the 62-year-old suspect was arrested in the Mantin area on Dec 27.

On Dec 26, DCP Alzafny said police believe the suspect possesses technical knowledge of explosives, based on the devices and equipment seized from his house.

Police also discovered 31 additional IEDs at the suspect’s residence, all of which were later destroyed for safety reasons. – December 29, 2025
