KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed the seizure of six bank accounts linked to a senior officer in the Malaysian Armed Forces and his family, as part of an investigation into a corruption case involving a military procurement project.
MACC’s Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, said that a probe has been initiated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 in connection with the case.
“Today, MACC officers carried out searches at several companies believed to be involved in order to obtain related documents and evidence. The six bank accounts, belonging to the suspect and a family member, have been seized as part of the investigation,” he said. The inquiry is now focusing on the cash flow suspected to have been deposited into the senior officer’s account.
An MACC source revealed that the searches at the Armed Forces office within the Ministry of Defence, as well as the suspect’s official residence, began around 5 pm and concluded at midnight on December 27.
Although no cash was seized, several luxury items, including watches and handbags believed to be linked to the case, were confiscated.
The source further shared that the suspect was scheduled to provide a statement at MACC’s headquarters on December 28 but was urgently hospitalised and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit on the same day.
Currently receiving medical treatment, the suspect’s statement has yet to be recorded. However, key witnesses, including contractors who are thought to have secured military contracts, will be called upon to assist in the investigation.
“MACC has recorded the statements of five company owners, and a total of 10 witnesses have been called to help with the probe,” the source said. “The commission is investigating approximately 40 companies suspected of involvement in bribery.”
The investigation is set to expand to examine financial flows, project procurements, and the relationships between individuals and companies implicated in the case, the source added.
The investigation is continuing with the MACC’s focus on tender-based procurement projects and those under the Army’s Centre of Responsibility (PTJ), as confirmed by the commission earlier this week.
Tan Sri Azam Baki has assured the public that all necessary legal procedures under the MACC Act 2009 are being followed. – December 29, 2025
