KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, President of Bersatu, has reiterated that the party will continue to be a consistent, principled, and loyal partner in Perikatan Nasional (PN), despite no longer leading the coalition.

Muhyiddin, who officially resigned as PN chairman on January 1, 2026, said the cooperation between parties within PN would remain strong, emphasising the importance of stability and the coalition’s continued strength.

“In facing current challenges, our priority is to ensure the continuity, strength, and future of the party. Sometimes, we must take a step back, not as a sign of weakness, but as a strategic move to strengthen our foundations, reorganise leadership, and build a more structured and sustainable party,” he said in a Facebook post today.

His resignation on January 1, 2026, ended a five-year leadership period for PN, following the political crisis in Perlis. The move also sparked a wave of resignations from four senior PN leaders, including Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is also PN Chairman for Selangor.

Also stepping down were PN Chairman for Negeri Sembilan, Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker; PN Chairman for Johor, Dr Sahruddin Jamal; and PN Chairman for Perak, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

Muhyiddin, in a firm statement, urged all Bersatu members to strengthen cooperation, reinforce unity, and close any gaps of division within the party.

“I want to stress that I remain at the helm of Bersatu as President. I demand that all Bersatu members remain steadfast, disciplined, and uphold a culture of mutual respect, resolving any differences in a wise, mature, and closed manner, for the sake of the party’s interest,” he concluded. – January 2, 2026.
