KUALA LUMPUR – Subang Jaya assemblywoman Michelle Ng Mei Sze may be heavily pregnant, but that has not stopped her from going to the ground to defend residents affected by delayed roadworks.
A video of the DAP lawmaker sternly reprimanding contractors over delays in cable-laying works near Persiaran Subang and the USJ 7/3a junction has been circulating widely on social media.
In the clip, Ng is heard questioning the contractor’s planning and calculations, remarking sarcastically whether their “mathematics had gone to the sea” (Matematik dah ke laut) after works fell behind schedule despite roads already being excavated.
She was responding to an explanation that the delays were caused by a shortage of trucks to transport soil to and from the site. The contractor claimed the problem arose because several cables were not factored in earlier and were only discovered during excavation.
“Did you not conduct a proper survey to determine how many cables were in the area before closing the road? That was the assurance given to me and the council,” Ng said.
She also rebuked the contractor for blaming the Selangor Utility Corridor (Kusel) for insufficient concrete barriers at the site, stressing that it was the contractor’s responsibility to plan for adequate barriers, including contingencies.
Ng warned that the delays could trigger severe traffic congestion once schools reopen on Monday, January 12.
She said that under normal conditions during the school term, motorists already take up to 40 minutes just to clear the junctions in the area.
“With roads now closed for cable works, it could be far worse,” she said.
Ng questioned why the delays were not communicated earlier, saying alternative arrangements could have been made.
“Don’t waste the people’s time. I’m angry because you gave me a commitment earlier, and now it’s a different story,” she said.
“When projects are delayed, it’s the people who suffer. That’s why I’m speaking out.”
The video has drawn widespread praise from social media users, many lauding Ng for her firm stance and hands-on approach despite her condition. – January 8, 2026
