Former army chief remanded for 7 days, wives for 6 and 3 days in graft probe

The trio are being investigated for alleged involvement in army procurement tender irregularities, with the former chief citing health concerns

KUALA LUMPUR – A former Army Chief has been remanded for seven days, while his two wives will be held for six and three days, respectively, to assist investigations into alleged corruption concerning army procurement tenders.

The remand orders were issued by Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah after an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Putrajaya Magistrates’ Court this morning, Bernama reported.

The three suspects were brought to court around 10 am after their detention at the MACC headquarters yesterday evening. They were escorted into the court compound, handcuffed and wearing orange detainee uniforms.

Lawyer Nizamuddin Hamid, who represents the former army chief, stated that his client had not fully recovered from an illness and was still undergoing medical treatment.

“We are allowing MACC space to carry out its investigation and have requested that the court grant our client access to legal counsel during the process,” Nizamuddin told reporters after the remand proceedings.

The three suspects were detained yesterday evening at 7 pm after providing statements to MACC investigators.

On December 23, MACC officers visited the Defence Ministry as part of their investigation into procurement projects conducted through open tender methods, as well as those under the Army’s Responsibility Centre.

Last Tuesday, MACC remanded 17 company directors who are suspected of involvement in the army procurement tender cartel network. – January 8, 2026
