KUALA LUMPUR – The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) must ensure clear and easily understandable communication with taxpayers, especially when it comes to changes in regulations, said Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong.

Speaking after his first visit to the LHDN headquarters, Liew stressed that effective communication is crucial for building public confidence in the country’s tax system.

“It also ensures that the policies introduced can be accepted and implemented smoothly,” he added in a statement.

Liew highlighted that LHDN could play a key role in boosting Malaysian companies, particularly local multinational corporations, and emphasised the importance of fostering fair competition between local and foreign companies.

“When I was at MITI, one of my main focuses was shifting the paradigm in assessing Malaysian companies,” Liew said.

He reiterated that a fair approach within the tax system is vital to prevent local companies from being sidelined and to support the development of globally competitive national companies.

On the topic of digitalisation, Liew commended LHDN for successfully managing the implementation of the Rahmah Cash Aid programme, and said that the successful management of the BUDI95 targeted subsidy showed Malaysia’s progress in digital governance.

“This effort must be expanded to further enhance the digitalisation of government processes,” he remarked.

Liew further emphasised the crucial role of LHDN in advancing the national digitalisation agenda, as its operations involve a large segment of the population. He expressed his appreciation to LHDN CEO Datuk Abu Tariq Jamaluddin for the invitation to visit. – January 8, 2026
