KUALA LUMPUR – Defence Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin is set to issue a statement tomorrow on a widening corruption investigation into military procurement, which has implicated senior officers and triggered multiple arrests.
Government spokesman Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil confirmed today that the matter was raised at the Cabinet retreat involving federal and state leaders, underscoring the gravity of the probe.
The retreat, attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, his deputies Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Cabinet ministers, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg and other state leaders, was briefed on the unfolding scandal.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi was absent.
The Malaysian Anti‑Corruption Commission (MACC) last week arrested a former army chief and his two wives in connection with alleged tender cartels manipulating procurement contracts.
Earlier today, a senior military officer was summoned to MACC headquarters in Putrajaya to record a statement.
Investigators are also scrutinising the owners of 26 companies linked to defence contracts, with several firms accused of repeatedly securing high‑value deals since 2023 through bribery.
The Defence Minister’s statement tomorrow is expected to shed light on the government’s next steps as pressure mounts for accountability in one of the most significant corruption probes to hit the armed forces. – January 11, 2026
