Selangor ruler orders stern action against LGBT ‘Glamping with Pride’ event

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah disapproves of any efforts to promote such activities, calling them a threat to Islamic values and the state’s well-being

KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has ordered firm action against the upcoming “Glamping with Pride” event, associated with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community, scheduled for January 17 and 18, 2026, in Hulu Langat, Selangor.

The matter was brought to the Sultan’s attention during an audience with Senator Datuk Setia Salehuddin Saidin, the Chairman of the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS), at Istana Bukit Kayangan in Shah Alam today.

Also present at the meeting were Selangor Mufti Datuk Setia Dr. Anhar Opir.

In a joint statement, the Sultan expressed that while such acts may involve personal sin with Allah SWT, they could also invite divine wrath and curse upon the state. He stressed that the state would not tolerate any form of festival, parade, activity, or celebration similar to the acts of sodomy associated with the people of Prophet Lut (AS).

“Sultan Sharafuddin also disapproves of any attempts to promote or legitimise the deviant LGBT lifestyle, as it goes against the principles of Maqasid Syariah, especially in terms of protecting lineage (Hifz al-Nasl),” the statement read.

The statement further highlighted that LGBT activities pose a risk of normalising such practices, which could endanger the faith of Muslims.

“They are legalising what has been clearly forbidden in Islam. They also believe that individuals are free to choose their gender identity, which contradicts the natural order established by Allah SWT,” the Sultan added.

MAIS also reminded Muslims, particularly the youth, not to be swayed by Western cultural practices that promote such deviant behaviours under the guise of human rights freedoms.

It was emphasised that not all human rights freedoms can be accepted or practiced by the Muslim community if they clearly contradict Islamic teachings. – January 12, 2026
