KUALA LUMPUR — Minister Hannah Yeoh has reiterated her commitment to people-centred governance following a meeting with Save Kuala Lumpur (Save KL) and the Kuala Lumpur Residents Action For Sustainable Development Association (KLRA+SD), which together represent more than 80 residents’ associations across the capital.
The engagement focused on improving the quality of life for Kuala Lumpur residents, with representatives sharing views and feedback on a range of urban challenges.
A central theme of the discussion was flood mitigation, particularly the protection and preservation of retention ponds that play a critical role in managing floods in the city.
Yeoh outlined her priorities on strengthening flood prevention measures and upholding good governance, while stressing the importance of inclusive and continuous engagement with communities and stakeholders.
“The principle of my administration is to govern together with the people,” Yeoh said.
“The views shared by residents’ associations are important inputs in shaping decisions and city governance, and all feedback will be carefully considered to ensure actions taken truly benefit residents.”
She also invited professionals and experts within the associations to contribute their expertise to support effective planning and implementation, underscoring the government’s openness to collaborative solutions.
According to Yeoh, the insights gathered from the meeting will help guide future city governance priorities, particularly in areas that directly affect residents’ safety and well-being.
“This approach reflects the Madani government’s commitment to developing Kuala Lumpur with a strong focus on quality of life and the well-being of its people,” she added.
