KUALA LUMPUR – PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has told Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah to focus on running the state and refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of other political parties.
Responding to Abu Bakar’s suggestion that three former PAS assemblymen be reinstated as independents, Fadhli said their party memberships had been terminated for breaching discipline, as clearly stipulated in PAS’s constitution.
“PAS cannot compromise on disciplinary matters like this,” he said in a Facebook post this morning.
He added that the menteri besar should concentrate on governing Perlis and avoid unnecessary political interference.
“Just take care of the state properly and make sure you do not end up being the shortest-serving Perlis menteri besar in history,” he said.
Fadhli also recalled Abu Bakar’s own political conduct in November 2023, when the Bersatu leader had publicly “declared war” on the Perlis leadership after not being appointed to the state executive council.
He said PAS could respond in kind if it wanted to engage in political games, noting that six PAS assemblymen could similarly declare “war”, but stressed that the party had chosen a different path.
“PAS assemblymen are not like the menteri besar, and our party is not like the menteri besar’s party. The people come first,” he said.
Abu Bakar had previously said that Ridzuan Hashim of Guar Sanji, Fakhrul Anwar Ismail of Bintong and Saad Seman of Chuping should be reinstated as elected representatives, even if they remained independents, saying they still had a mandate to serve their constituents.
The three seats were declared vacant after PAS terminated their memberships following allegations that they had withdrawn support for then-menteri besar Shukri Ramli.– January 25, 2026
