KUALA LUMPUR – The Social Security Organisation’s (Socso) Lindung 24/7 scheme is expected to be launched by mid-year, according to Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.
Speaking to reporters after a media luncheon today, Ramanan explained that the ministry is taking a careful approach to ensure the scheme aligns with other existing programmes, Bernama reported.
“We need to ensure that the scheme ‘syncs with’ other programmes. So for now, it is still in the planning stage, but it will definitely be implemented this year,” he said.
The event was also attended by Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, Perkeso chairman Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal, Bernama editor-in-chief D. Arul Rajoo, and Bernama TV head Nor Hamzeela Md Hambali.
In early December last year, the Dewan Rakyat passed the Employees’ Social Security (Amendment) Bill 2025, which introduced the Lindung 24/7 scheme. The initiative aims to provide comprehensive, round-the-clock protection for workers, covering accidents even outside working hours.
Under this new scheme, workers will be eligible for various benefits, including Medical Benefit, Temporary Disablement Benefit, Permanent Disablement Benefit, Dependants’ Benefit, Constant Attendance Allowance, Funeral Benefit, Rehabilitation Benefit, and Education Benefit. This marks a significant shift from previous programmes, which only provided coverage for work-related incidents.
In related news, SOCSO reported that 150,599 out of 208,599 job seekers secured employment last year through 3,715 career carnivals and interview sessions, involving nearly 24,000 employers nationwide. Additionally, SOCSO’s rehabilitation efforts have been notably successful, with over 80% of patients, or 4,817 out of 5,887, successfully reintegrating into society and returning to work.
The opening of SOCSO’s Rehabilitation Centre in Ipoh later this year, along with the planned centres in Terengganu and Penang, will complete the social protection ecosystem, addressing capacity limitations at the existing centres in Melaka and Ipoh.
This year, SOCSO plans to focus on amendments to the Employment Insurance System Act 2017 (Act 800), the gazettement of the Gig Workers Act 2025, and a feasibility study on the Commuter Scheme to assist nearly 400,000 Malaysians commuting to Singapore for work. – January 27, 2026
