Bersatu member files disciplinary complaint against Muhyiddin amid coalition row

Complaint alleges unauthorized actions and breaches of party rules and calls for party president to step down

KUALA LUMPUR – A senior Bersatu member has filed a formal disciplinary complaint against party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, alleging serious breaches of party rules and actions that have damaged the party’s credibility.

Hariz Faisal bin Ismail, a Putrajaya-based member and former leader in the party’s youth wing, submitted the complaint to Datuk Mohammed Radzi Manan, chairman of the party’s disciplinary board, claiming that a January 27 letter from Muhyiddin to component parties of the opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional represented an unauthorised use of the party’s name and image and was not approved through official party channels.

Hariz said the letter and the subsequent response from PAS on January 28, which contradicted Muhyiddin’s account of discussions, had “created serious confusion” and harmed the institution of the Bersatu presidency and the party’s reputation.

He said the proposals in Muhyiddin’s letter were not discussed or endorsed by Bersatu’s Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) or Presidential Council and contravened earlier party decisions. Hariz’s complaint cites clauses in the party’s 2024 constitution that bind the president to implement party policy, comply with party decisions and safeguard the party’s name and reputation.

“No individual, including the president, is above the party constitution,” Hariz said in the complaint, urging the Disciplinary Board to conduct a “transparent, thorough and courageous” investigation and take action to uphold discipline.

Hariz said enforcing discipline at all levels was critical for the party’s integrity and future, and stressed that the complaint was submitted not as a personal attack but to defend principles and party unity.

The complaint comes amid a broader leadership dispute within Bersatu and PN following Muhyiddin’s resignation as the coalition chairman. He had then called for the PN president’s post to be abolished – which component party PAS disagreed with.

Yesterday, suspended Bersatu Supreme Council Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal called for Muhyiddin to resign as party president, accusing him of misleading PAS over plans to restructure PN and abolish the coalition’s chairman post.

Wan Fayhsal said PAS’s reply letter clearly contradicted Muhyiddin’s claims about the restructuring talks and had damaged relations with coalition partners. He also urged Muhyiddin to step down to restore public confidence in both Bersatu and PN. – January 30, 2026
