KUALA LUMPUR – A criminal syndicate involved in a fake live streaming pornographic content scam was dismantled following the arrest of two Chinese nationals in a condominium unit in Maluri, Cheras, last night.
The operation, carried out at 3 p.m. by officers from the Commercial Crime Investigation Division of the Cheras district police headquarters, was triggered by information about a call centre targeting international victims, primarily in Hong Kong.
Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud, the Cheras district police chief, confirmed to Scoop that a 28-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were apprehended during the raid.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate offered short-term access to live streaming of pornographic or nude content, later demanding additional payments from users to continue their access,” he explained.
However, once the payments were made, users found that the promised services were never delivered. The police investigation revealed that the syndicate was responsible for both running the platform and deceiving the users.
Further inquiries revealed that another group, which remains unidentified, handled the payment transactions and user accounts.
“The two suspects arrested were primarily involved in marketing and operating the platform. The team responsible for managing the transactions is still at large,” Mohd Rosdi said.
The syndicate had reportedly been active for approximately six months, using mobile internet networks to facilitate its operations.
During the raid, authorities seized several mobile phones with an estimated value of RM25,000.
The two suspects have been remanded for four days, until February 2, and the case is being investigated under Sections 420 and 120B of the Penal Code. – January 30, 2026
