KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a department head and a director from a government agency in connection with an alleged scheme to misappropriate approximately RM900,000 in public funds.
According to a statement on MACC’s official TikTok account, the two men, both in their 50s, were apprehended around 1 p.m. today while giving statements at MACC’s headquarters in Putrajaya.
“Initial investigations indicate that the suspects were involved in this illicit activity in 2024. They are believed to have abused their power and positions, using financial allocations from their workplace, amounting to approximately RM900,000, for personal benefit,” MACC said in the statement.
The agency also revealed that the suspects had submitted false claims and provided fake documents, amounting to RM60,000, for expenses related to their umrah pilgrimage during an official visit to Jeddah from January 29 to February 4 last year.
MACC’s Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, confirmed the arrests and stated that investigations are ongoing. He added that further arrests could follow if additional evidence or testimony comes to light.
“Investigations are being carried out under Sections 18 and 23 of the MACC Act 2009, and are also linked to criminal breach of trust and misappropriation under the Penal Code,” he stated. – February 11, 2026.
