KUALA LUMPUR – The KL police has confirmed receiving three police reports in connection with allegedly defamatory and unverified statements circulated online pertaining to the shareholding controversy involving Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Azam Baki.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said two reports were lodged on February 13 at about 11am over online articles alleging breaches of shareholding limits and public service regulations by a civil servant. The articles were described as false and malicious, and allegedly aimed at tarnishing MACC’s reputation.
A third report was lodged in support of the statements published on the same platform, involving an individual and the MACC as an organisation.
Fadil said the case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Section 500 of the Penal Code, and Section 8A of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984.
He advised the public not to speculate or share unverified information, warning that firm action may be taken against those found to be spreading false news or defamatory content.
“The police will conduct investigations in a transparent, fair and professional manner in accordance with the law,” he said in a statement. – February 14, 2026
