KUALA LUMPUR — An individual close to a sacked Bersatu leader is responsible for hijacking the party’s official Facebook page and posting unapproved content, its head of information Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said.
The person identified had taken over page access, removed the legitimate page administrators, and then uploaded posts that attacked leaders and tarnished the party, Tun Faisal said in a statement on Facebook.
“Bersatu takes this action seriously because it involves the invasion of digital access and misuse of the party’s official communication platform, which can confuse members and the general public.
“The content is illegal, does not represent the official position of the party, and was created without the permission of the Bersatu leadership,” he said.
Bersatu has taken steps to regain control of the page and initiate investigations, including lodging an official report with Meta.
It has also submitted a complaint to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and has filed a police report to enable a criminal investigation.
However, at the time of writing, content that mocked leaders such as Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were still visible, including one this morning that made fun of a special meeting of the Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council held at Muhyiddin’s house in Bukit Damansara.
“Just hold the meeting at the house. It’s easier to go to the toilet. The headquarters at Yayasan Selangor is too far,” said one post.
Tun Faisal said that the action is believed to involve criminal offences under Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Computer Crimes Act 1997 relating to unauthorised access and modification of computer material.
It also involves Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 on improper use of network facilities or services, and provisions under the Penal Code covering fraud, forgery and defamation if the content is deemed defamatory.
“People are advised not to be influenced by any suspicious posts and await official statements from the party’s legitimate communication channels,” Tun Faisal added.
Bersatu yesterday sacked 17 members, including party deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin for going against Muhyiddin. – February 14, 2026
