KUALA LUMPUR — Former Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin will not appeal his sacking from the party but is still keeping mum on plans to join another party.
“I won’t appeal. I am a free man. I no longer need to listen to things that I may have to do unwillingly,” Hamzah said at a press conference after addressing his supporters at an event dubbed “Reset” held at the Universiti Malaya Alumni Clubhouse (PAUM) here, today.
“When I got the letter about my sacking, ‘Alhamdullilah’ was the first thing I said to God,” he added, flanked by Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee and party women’s wing chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
Hamzah dismissed questions from the media about whether he would be joining PAS, following his sacking yesterday along with 16 other Bersatu members for going against party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
“Don’t ask me whether I will join PAS, or whoever. That will come later. I will sit down to talk about that and decide. Now, everyone is in the holiday mood,” he said, referring to Chinese New Year celebrations and the start of Ramadan next week.
Hamzah also described his political struggle as “building the nation through consensus, enlarging what we have and sharing it with everyone”.
Pressed further about a future political platform and if he would head it, he said: “I’m not the head, but maybe, I’m the captain”.
During the event earlier, Hamzah told a crowd of a few hundred people that he was once Muhyiddin’s “number one supporter”.
“Today, I want to say I am his number one enemy,” the Larut MP announced.
Earlier, Hamzah arrived at the event venue to loud applause of “Hidup Hamzah!” (Long Live Hamzah) and “Reset”. He wore a white shirt, as did the majority of event participants, believed to be on purpose to contrast against red which is Bersatu’s official colour.
Long-standing friction between Hamzah and Muhyiddin over the latter’s leadership and Bersatu’s direction saw increasing calls for Muhyiddin’s resignation in recent months from within the party.
Yesterday, Hamzah and 16 other party members, including MPs, state assemblymen and division chiefs, were sacked for breaching the constitution over their attacks against Muhyiddin.
Before them, Tasek Gelugor MP and ex-party information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan, and Indera Mahkota MP and party supreme council member Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah were also sacked.
This morning, Muhyiddin chaired a special meeting of Bersatu’s supreme leadership council, after which he said in a press statement that the sackings had been the “best option” to restore the party from its internal turmoil. – February 14, 2026
