KUALA LUMPUR – A total of 503 new tuberculosis (TB) cases were detected up to the fifth epidemiological week of this year, bringing the nationwide total to 2,571 cases.
In a statement today, the Health Ministry said Sabah recorded the highest number of cases, 614, representing 23.88 per cent of the total reported.
This was followed by Selangor with 476 cases (18.51 per cent) and Sarawak with 257 cases (10.00 per cent).
Meanwhile, Johor recorded 233 cases, while the Federal Territory of Putrajaya recorded 202 cases (7.86 per cent). Penang recorded 148 cases, followed by Kedah with 144 cases and Perak with 127 cases.
Other states recorded lower figures, including Kelantan with 96 cases, Pahang (81), Terengganu (60), Negeri Sembilan (58), Melaka (42), Perlis (17) and Labuan (16).
The ministry also reminded the public to remain vigilant in preventing and controlling the spread of TB, especially in view of the upcoming festive season and extended public holidays.
“Preventive measures include practising proper cough and sneeze etiquette and wearing face masks in crowded areas.
“Individuals experiencing symptoms such as a persistent cough, fever, loss of appetite or unexplained weight loss are urged to seek immediate screening at the nearest healthcare facility,” the statement said. – February 15, 2026
