KUALA LUMPUR – The Communications Ministry, in collaboration with the Johor branch of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), will assist fire victims in Kampung Orang Asli Teluk Jawa by offering free SIM card replacements.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching revealed that approximately 70 SIM cards belonging to the victims were damaged in a fire on February 12.

“Telecommunication companies will visit the temporary relief centre at Dewan Muafakat Taman Megah Ria, where the victims are currently staying,” Teo said.

She added that while replacing a SIM card usually incurs a fee, efforts will be made to ensure the victims receive replacements at no charge.

“These individuals are fire victims, and I hope the companies will assist them on humanitarian grounds,” Teo explained after visiting the relief centre.

The Deputy Minister further highlighted the importance of keeping victims connected with their families and ensuring they are updated with essential information. She noted that both 4G and 5G coverage at the temporary centre is strong and stable, encouraging residents to report any connectivity issues to the ministry or Johor MCMC.

In addition to the SIM card replacements, Teo, who also serves as Johor DAP chairman, distributed RM500 in cash from DAP to 40 Orang Asli families at the relief centre. – February 15, 2026
