KUALA LUMPUR – Police have launched a special operation and mounted a manhunt for a suspect linked to a string of ATM vandalism cases in Jinjang that left banks counting losses of more than RM60,000 within 48 hours.

Speaking to Scoop, Sentul police chief ACP Basri Sagoni said the first report was received on February 16 at about 8.40am from a 38-year-old ATM technician at the Maybank Jinjang Selatan branch.

“He discovered that four ATM screens had been cracked while carrying out maintenance work.

“The damage is believed to have been caused deliberately by an unknown individual. The estimated loss in that case is about RM4,000,” he said.

Basri said police then received four more reports the following day, between 12.24pm and 10.16pm.

“Two cases were reported at Maybank Jinjang Selatan, one at RHB Jinjang Utara and one at Public Bank Jinjang Utara. The total losses from these incidents are estimated at around RM60,000,” he said.

He added that the Sentul District Police Headquarters immediately launched a special operation to track down the suspect.

“The suspect is described as a man of unknown ethnicity, about 165cm tall, of medium build and fair complexion. He was wearing a grey short-sleeved shirt, long trousers and black slippers,” he said.

“He was also wearing a blue helmet and riding a blue Honda Wave motorcycle. The registration number has yet to be identified.”

On the modus operandi, Basri said the suspect would enter the ATM lobby, smash the machine screens using an object believed to be a stone and flee immediately.

“So far, no other criminal elements have been identified. All cases are being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief causing damage to property,” he said.

Members of the public with information are urged to contact the Sentul District Police Headquarters operations room at 03-4048 2222 or report to the nearest police station. – February 18, 2026
