KUALA LUMPUR — Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has defended its decision to dismantle a stall operated by Multiracial Reverted Muslims (MRM) along Jalan Bukit Bintang, citing a breach of municipal by-laws.
In a statement issued today, DBKL clarified that the stall, set up in front of the Yayasan Selangor building, was removed on Tuesday after it was found to be obstructing a pedestrian walkway. The local authority stressed that public walkways must remain clear at all times to ensure pedestrian safety and uninterrupted access.
“Enforcement officers were deployed to the location to seek clarification from the organisers,” DBKL stated. “However, after waiting for more than 30 minutes, no representative from the concerned party approached the officers to provide an explanation.”
Consequently, DBKL officers proceeded to dismantle the tent and remove the related materials, storing them in accordance with relevant legal provisions and municipal by-laws.
The council highlighted that during the enforcement operation, no party was present to engage with the officers or offer any clarification on the matter.
DBKL reaffirmed that all enforcement actions are carried out professionally, in adherence to the law, and are essential for maintaining public order and safety.
The local authority also announced plans to meet with MRM to discuss long-term solutions to avoid similar situations in the future.
“DBKL has never obstructed dakwah activities in public areas,” the statement added. “However, all activities must comply with the regulations and procedures set by the local authorities.”
Earlier, PAS Youth had condemned DBKL’s action, labelling it an unjustified shutdown of the ‘Street Dakwah’ programme organised by MRM, and accusing the local authority of confiscating religious materials. – February 18, 2026
