KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) Members of Parliament have urged the government to establish a special investigative committee with the status of a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI), to be chaired by a former senior court judge, to probe a mega agreement between the federal government and a foreign company reportedly worth RM1.1 billion.
PN’s Chief Whip, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said firm and immediate action must be taken if the government is truly serious and committed to combating corruption and misconduct at all levels.
“The government cannot remain silent or hide behind procedures and mere rhetoric. The people have the right to know the truth and the actual facts.
“RM1.1 billion is not a small amount. It involves public funds and public trust in the integrity of the government’s administrative system,” he said in a statement today.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) previously confirmed receiving a report regarding alleged misappropriation involving a RM1.11 billion investment linked to a former senior minister from a ministry.
The report was submitted by a coalition of several non-governmental organisations (NGOs). Based on the report, the complainants suspect that the former senior minister and ministry officials at the time were involved.
There are also alleged concerns regarding the negotiation and approval process, which reportedly did not fully involve relevant ministries and agencies such as the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI).
Takiyuddin added that failure to act firmly and transparently would only strengthen public perception that there are attempts to conceal or protect certain individuals.
He said PN will continue to closely monitor the matter to ensure that principles of transparency, accountability, and integrity are upheld without compromise. – February 19, 2026
