KUALA LUMPUR – Police will call up several individuals to assist in investigations linked to an international media report alleging share ownership involving Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said an investigation paper has been opened, with officers in the process of recording statements from relevant parties.
“Insya-Allah, I will provide updates on this matter from time to time, and the investigation papers will be submitted to the Attorney General’s Chambers soon,” he told reporters after attending a contribution presentation by Yayasan Seri Negara and Zakat Wakalah PBLT Sdn Bhd at the Cheras district police headquarters today.
Earlier, the Royal Malaysia Police confirmed receiving a report over a Bloomberg article that allegedly contained defamatory statements against Azam.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar was reported as saying the case is being handled by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit under the Prosecution and Legal Division of the CID.
The investigation is being conducted under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Azam has previously maintained that he no longer owns shares in any company, stressing that all past share transactions were carried out transparently and in accordance with government rules.
He also said his trading account is currently inactive and that its status can be verified with Bursa Malaysia. – February 21, 2026
