KUALA LUMPUR – Twelve police personnel have been suspended from active duties following their alleged involvement in the theft of cryptocurrency from Chinese nationals in Kajang earlier this month.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the 12 personnel have been temporarily removed from frontline duties while investigations are underway, as part of measures to safeguard the integrity of the probe.

“For now, they are placed in non-operational positions to ensure the investigation can proceed smoothly,” he said after attending a Yayasan Seri Negara donation ceremony and the handover of Zakat Wakalah by PBLT Sdn Bhd at the Cheras district police headquarters today, reported Bernama.

Investigators are in the process of recording statements from all parties involved, with further legal or disciplinary action to be determined once the probe is completed.

Mohd Khalid stressed that the Royal Malaysia Police will not shield any personnel found to have broken the law.

“We will not tolerate any wrongdoing. If the law is broken, we will take action and press charges where necessary,” he said.

On Friday, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed that the officers had been detained in connection with the case. –February 21, 2026
