KUALA LUMPUR – The Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Tan Sri Azam Baki, has given his statement to a special investigation committee over issues related to his share ownership.
Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, said the committee convened on February 19 and summoned Azam to provide clarification regarding the ownership of 17.7 million shares purchased at RM1.416 million in Velocity Capital Partner Bhd.
“Based on the preliminary report received, the committee is examining the aspects of compliance and regularity concerning Tan Sri Azam Baki’s share ownership.
“The committee is still in the process of evaluating all statements obtained and will call other relevant witnesses to complete the investigation into this matter,” he said in a statement today.
He assured that a thorough investigation would be carried out in a transparent, independent and professional manner.
“The findings of the investigation and recommendations for further action will be submitted to the relevant authorities, including in the event that any breach of criminal law or prevailing regulations is established,” he added.
Azam had previously stated that he no longer owns shares in any company and that all prior transactions were conducted transparently and in full compliance with government regulations.
He also said his trading account is now empty and can be verified through Bursa Malaysia.
However, following allegations by international media regarding the shareholding issue, several parties have called for Azam to be investigated.
In response, the government announced the formation of a special committee, chaired by the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, to probe the allegations and related matters concerning the shares linked to Azam.
Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said yesterday that police would record statements from several individuals to assist in the investigation.
He said an investigation paper has been opened and that police are conducting inquiries, including taking statements from relevant parties.
“God willing, updates will be provided from time to time and the investigation paper will be submitted to the Attorney General’s Chambers in the near future,” he said. — February 22, 2026.
