Hamzah sues Redzuan for RM100 million over claim he backed Anwar government

Larut MP alleges Bersatu co‑founder damaged his reputation with false political accusation

KUALA LUMPUR — Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has filed a RM100 million defamation suit against Bersatu co‑founder Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Yusof, claiming the latter falsely accused him of orchestrating support from six opposition MPs for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s government in 2023.

In a writ filed at the Shah Alam High Court earlier this month, Hamzah said Redzuan’s statement, published in Berita Harian on Nov 5, 2025, seriously harmed his public and political reputation. He is seeking RM100 million in general and aggravated damages, interest and legal costs.

Hamzah also wants the former Alor Gajah MP to publicly retract the claim and issue an unconditional apology through major Malay‑language media, according to Free Malaysia Today. Hamzah’s legal team says the allegation has undermined his standing in politics and among voters, and was made without basis, portraying him as a political manipulator.

Redzuan is alleged to have claimed that Hamzah mobilised six Bersatu MPs at the time — Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang) — to support Anwar.

Hamzah had sent a letter of demand on Nov 6, seeking an apology. Redzuan, through his legal firm, denied making the statements the following day.

The lawsuit comes amid ongoing turbulence in Hamzah’s political career. He was recently expelled from Bersatu and is now considered an independent MP, complicating his role in Parliament.— February 24, 2026
