KUALA LUMPUR – The Health Ministry (MOH) has temporarily shut down the main kitchen at the Royal Lake Club Kuala Lumpur after an inspection identified significant cleanliness and compliance concerns.

However, the club has since taken steps to address the issues.

In a letter to members, Club President Gaspar Gnanamuthu expressed regret for the disruption caused, acknowledging that previous communications regarding the closure had not been sufficiently clear, leading to confusion among members.

“The Main Kitchen was required to close temporarily following an inspection by officers from the MOH, during which cleanliness and compliance issues were identified,” the letter said.

The club has been provided with a list of required rectifications and a deadline to comply. The General Committee confirmed that corrective measures are already underway, including extensive cleaning, repairs, tighter hygiene controls, and enhanced supervision of kitchen operations.

While the main kitchen remains closed, food and beverage services continue across other club outlets. Bunga Raya and The Orchid are offering full menus, while Garden Café and Cuppa are expanding their selections to include sandwiches, pre-packed noodles, nasi lemak, fresh juices, and convenient “Grab & Go” items.

Poolside stalls now remain open until 9pm, and the Pavilion has increased its seating capacity.

The Banquet Hall is hosting Buka Puasa with Warisan Serantau, catered by Felda D’ Saji. Batek Bar, Billiards, and the Machine Rooms are continuing to serve the Pavilion menu.

However, the Buttery remains closed until further notice, the club said.

The letter further noted that the MOH has been enforcing stricter hygiene regulations across various clubs and food establishments, with other longstanding clubs also facing temporary closures after inspections.

“The safety, well-being and confidence of our members remain our highest priority,” the club stated, adding that it is taking steps to improve oversight and ensure more transparent communication moving forward.

The club thanked its members for their “patience and understanding” during the temporary closure. – February 26, 2026
