KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) has mobilised its diplomatic missions across the Middle East to assist Malaysians stranded due to widespread flight cancellations, triggered by escalating tensions in the region.
In an advisory issued on Sunday, the ministry confirmed that all Malaysians who reached out to its missions are safe and accounted for.
The ministry assured the public that consular support was being extended to those stranded in Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Syria, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates.
“At the time of this update, our Missions are extending assistance or in communication with Malaysians who are stranded among others in Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Syria, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates,” Wisma Putra said.
With the situation described as highly fluid, the ministry urged travellers to stay proactive by contacting their airlines directly for the latest flight schedule updates and any potential disruptions caused by airspace closures.
“The Foreign Ministry’s Operations Room in Putrajaya is actively coordinating consular efforts,” it added.
As a precaution, the ministry advised Malaysians to defer all non-essential travel to the affected areas. It also encouraged those already in the region to immediately register their presence via the E-Konsular platform at https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my
to ensure they receive timely updates and assistance if required.
Wisma Putra further reminded Malaysians abroad to adhere to the instructions of local authorities, seek shelter if advised, and stay updated by monitoring the official social media pages of Malaysian diplomatic missions.
“The ministry urges all Malaysians to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified rumours, and rely strictly on official news sources and official Ministry channels for accurate updates,” it emphasised.
Recent events have seen tensions soar after a surprise joint offensive by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) and the United States on Iran, which resulted in powerful explosions near Tehran. The strike led to the relocation of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to an undisclosed location for security reasons. In another attack, a school in Iran was reportedly targeted, with 108 deaths confirmed thus far.
Malaysians in affected regions who require emergency consular assistance can contact the Ministry’s Operations Room at +603-8887 4570 or via email at [email protected]
