KUALA LUMPUR — Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has invited former members to return to the party, saying the holy month of Ramadan presents an opportunity to rebuild ties and strengthen unity.
Zahid said Umno’s doors remain open to those who were previously expelled or suspended, as well as individuals who wish to rejoin the party’s struggle.
“In the spirit of Ramadan, which embodies mercy and forgiveness, past mistakes and differences are forgiven so we can open a new chapter to rebuild the larger Umno family,” he said in a statement.
He added that the Rumah Bangsa Committee, chaired by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, will coordinate the process for former members seeking to return in accordance with the party’s constitution.
Zahid said the move is aimed at strengthening the party’s foundations and fostering greater unity as Umno continues its political struggle for religion, race and the nation.
The deputy prime minister added that Ramadan encourages reflection, reconciliation and the strengthening of brotherhood, making it an appropriate time to reconnect with those who had previously left the party.
Umno has in recent months reiterated that its “Rumah Bangsa” initiative is open to individuals or groups seeking to rejoin the party, with a committee tasked with managing applications for re-entry. — March 6, 2026
