KUALA LUMPUR – The government is set to roll out flexible working arrangements, including work-from-home (WFH) options, for civil servants in a phased and selective manner to mitigate the impact of global oil supply disruptions stemming from the West Asia crisis, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.
In a special address, Anwar, who also holds the Finance portfolio, encouraged private sector companies to consider adopting similar WFH practices, noting that several firms and banks have already done so, Bernama reported.
“On the part of the government, insya-Allah, we will continue to uphold discipline, avoid wastage and leakages, and ensure that Malaysia’s economic growth momentum remains exceptional.
“Despite the global turbulence, Malaysia continues to attract strong interest and remains an active investment destination, as reflected in several initiatives we have announced, even amid ongoing conflicts and uncertainties,” he said.
Several Southeast Asian nations, including Myanmar, Thailand and Indonesia, have introduced WFH policies for civil servants in 2026 to curb energy and fuel consumption.
The Prime Minister also called on Malaysians to maintain their prayers for the nation’s peace and to remain diligent and committed in their work, whether in public or private sectors.
“Let us strengthen our economic resilience in facing every test and challenge from Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala, and take the opportunity amid global uncertainties to improve and enhance our capabilities,” he added. – March 26, 2026
