KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) may consider the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC)’s silence as a rejection of its invitation to join the coalition if no response is forthcoming, its secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said.
He said PN had given MIC ample time to indicate whether it intends to accept or decline the offer, stressing that the matter cannot remain unresolved indefinitely.
“MIC can respond by replying to the letter or issuing a statement, but if there is no immediate response, we will consider it a rejection,” he said.
Takiyuddin also expressed confusion over MIC’s position, noting the party’s insistence that it remains with Barisan Nasional (BN).
“We are puzzled that MIC says it is staying with BN. You have to ask MIC what they actually mean,” he said when met at the PAS Kelantan Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at Dataran Warisan, Stadium Sultan Muhammad IV in Kota Bharu.
He further revealed that MIC, through its president, had submitted a formal letter dated Nov 15, 2025 to then PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin expressing its intention to join the coalition.
According to him, the application included the phrase “to be re-admitted”, suggesting MIC viewed itself as among PN’s founding members.
“If they say they did not apply, please prove it. I have the letter,” he said.
Takiyuddin said the application was discussed at a PN meeting on Dec 9, 2025 and subsequently approved, positioning MIC as the coalition’s fifth component party alongside PAS, Bersatu, Gerakan and MIPP.
He added that the decision was reaffirmed at another meeting on March 14, before an official offer letter was issued to MIC on March 23.
Earlier, MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M Saravanan denied that the party had decided to leave BN or submitted any application to join PN. – March 28, 2026
