KUALA LUMPUR – R. Sakthygaanapathy, was charged at the Klang Magistrate’s Court today with the murder of a motorcyclist, Amirul Hafiz Omar, over a fatal crash that occurred on March 29.
The 28-year-old accused allegedly caused the death of Amirul, 32, a warehouse worker and delivery rider, at 11.47am along Jalan Raya Barat in Klang.
The charge was brought under Section 302 of the Penal Code. However, no plea was recorded, as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
If convicted, the offence carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years. If the death penalty is not imposed, the offender is also liable to at least 12 strokes of the cane.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin, while the accused was unrepresented.
Sakthygaanapathy, dressed in a white T-shirt, also faced a separate charge under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug consumption.
He pleaded guilty to abusing benzodiazepine and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) at 3.30pm on March 29 at the narcotics office of the Klang Selatan District Police Headquarters.
The offence, under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, carries a maximum fine of RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years.
The victim’s wife, Nor Nadia Abdul Majid, 32, was present in court.
Last Sunday, Klang Selatan District Police Chief Lim Jit Huey said the motorcyclist died after being hit by a car driven by an individual believed to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs in an incident at around 11.40 a.m.
The impact of the crash caused Amirul Hafiz to be thrown onto the roof of a Perodua Myvi, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the Honda City driven by the suspect was heading towards Bandar Klang at a high and dangerous speed. The vehicle reportedly overtook several cars before veering into the opposite lane and colliding with the victim’s motorcycle.
A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, showing a car speeding, crossing double lines, and crashing into a motorcycle, launching the rider into the air before he landed on another vehicle. — April 1, 2026
