KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki has declined to comment on questions surrounding a possible extension of his contract, as scrutiny over his tenure intensifies.
Speaking briefly to reporters on the sidelines of an engagement session at MACC headquarters, Azam reiterated his refusal to address the matter.
“No comment. I have already said that I will not answer on that matter,” he said, reported the New Straits Times.
Azam’s contract is set to expire on May 12, 2026, with his future remaining uncertain amid ongoing public and political attention over his shareholding controversy.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has previously said no decision has been made on the extension.
Separately, a Singapore-based news outlet, citing unnamed sources, reported that Azam’s contract may not be renewed, amid mounting pressure linked to investigations into his shareholdings.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the findings of the probe will be made public once investigations are completed. – April 2, 2026
