KUALA LUMPUR — A motion to remove Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli as PKR Pandan branch chief failed to gain support at the branch’s annual general meeting (AGM) today.
PKR Pandan deputy youth chief Haqimi Zamri told Malaysiakini that the motion was rejected by a 42-34 vote. Rafizi did not attend the meeting.
Haqimi claimed the motion was pushed by those seeking to take over the branch. “It is not the branch’s right to determine (who the current chief is). There was already a show-cause letter, and Rafizi responded to it, thus avoiding disciplinary action,” he said.
When contacted, Rafizi said he only learned of the motion from Malaysiakini and described it as a clear signal that PKR leadership was aiming to end his political career. He added that the move reflects internal divisions reaching the grassroots level.
“PKR cannot force members to oppose me. Actions like this only create resistance and risk driving members away,” he said, adding that he had chosen not to attend the AGM because he expected it to proceed calmly.
Rafizi also noted that his time in PKR is nearing its end, and he had already informed the branch. “What PKR wants to do, I leave to PKR. I am no longer playing politics. I believe the party has lost its soul and no longer aligns with my values,” he said.
Since losing the deputy presidency last year, Rafizi has been an outspoken critic of PKR, particularly of President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Prime Minister, raising issues including alleged corruption involving individuals close to Anwar. — April 5, 2026
