KUALA LUMPUR — A PKR division leader has raised concerns over purportedly waning support for former Deputy President Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, citing internal dissatisfaction and a growing disconnect with grassroots members.
Pokok Sena chief Mohd Altab Pa Ibrahim expressed firm backing for party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim while criticising Rafizi’s recent actions and standing within the party.
“The strength of the party lies in unity, discipline, and sincerity in defending our shared struggle,” he said in a statement today.
He pointed to developments at Rafizi’s Pandan division, where a motion to remove the Pandan MP as division chief was ultimately rejected at its annual general meeting, but exposed a split among members.
“Although the motion did not pass, the result itself is telling, with only 42 votes backing him against 34 who opposed,” he said, describing it as a signal of eroding grassroots confidence.
Mohd Altab said the outcome reflects deeper unease within Rafizi’s own base.
“If he cannot convincingly secure support within his own division, it raises questions about his position when speaking on leadership and the party’s future at the national level,” he added.
He also took aim at Rafizi’s continued public criticism of the party, suggesting it risks undermining unity.
“PKR does not need ‘seasonal heroes’ who are vocal in criticism but absent from consistent grassroots work,” he said.
Calling for unity amid global economic uncertainty, he urged members to focus on strengthening the party rather than amplifying internal divisions.
The remarks underscore growing tensions within PKR as differing views continue to surface ahead of key political developments.
Separately, Batu Uban assemblyman Kumaresan Aramugam criticised Rafizi’s remark that he would become “more dangerous” if he were to leave the party, describing it as arrogant and inappropriate.
Meanwhile, Johor PKR State Leadership Council chairman Zaliha Mustafa and her deputy, Md Ysahrudin Kusni cautioned that airing internal disputes publicly could undermine party discipline and erode trust among members.— April 6, 2026
