UPSI staff found dead in storage room

Mohd Radzi Ariffin, 53, was discovered trapped in a locked cleaning equipment room at the Sports Bowl in Tanjong Malim

KUALA LUMPUR – A Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) staff member was discovered dead in the cleaning equipment storage room of the Sports Bowl in Tanjong Malim, Perak early this morning.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) deputy operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the emergency call was received at 1.57 am, with a rescue team arriving on site within 10 minutes.

“The male victim, 53-year-old Mohd Radzi Ariffin, was trapped inside a locked storage room. UPSI auxiliary police opened the door upon the firefighters’ arrival. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Ministry of Health personnel,” he said in a statement.

The operation concluded at 2.36 am. Police have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. – April 7, 2026
