KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has welcomed the latest diplomatic developments surrounding the US–Iran conflict, describing a proposed ten-point peace plan as a crucial step towards global stability.
“Peace talks cannot succeed if the proceedings are cloaked in deception and double-dealing,” Anwar said in a social media post.
His remarks follow a key breakthrough in which US President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire, reportedly postponing a major military strike that had been scheduled the previous night.
The pause in hostilities has enabled the presentation of Iran’s ten-point proposal, which has been positively received by the United States.
Anwar stressed that the negotiation process must be guided by firm resolve, aimed at achieving a lasting resolution rather than temporary fixes.
Welcoming the encouraging response to the proposal, he noted that it signals a potential pathway towards restoring peace and stability in the region.
“It is earnestly hoped that the negotiation process will be conducted in good faith, with a firm resolve to seek a lasting resolution to the issues currently facing the region,” he said.
Anwar also urged the international community to ensure that any agreement evolves into a comprehensive peace deal—one that extends beyond Iran to include conflict-affected countries such as Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen.
He further emphasised that any long-term solution must address the ongoing crisis in Palestine.
“It is incumbent upon the parties concerned to ensure an end to the genocide and dispossession of the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza,” he added.
Anwar also expressed appreciation to Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan for their persistent and courageous diplomatic efforts in mediating the talks while engaging all parties impartially.
He noted that Malaysia stands ready to support and complement these initiatives.
In his concluding remarks, Anwar called for unimpeded humanitarian access to all civilians affected by the conflict.
“Let this be a turning point towards lasting peace. The world cannot afford for it to be anything less,” he said. — April 8, 2026
