KUALA LUMPUR – A woman was left shaken after a man allegedly attempted to spy on her from the ceiling while she was using a toilet at the Sentul Light Rail Transit (LRT) station here this morning, in an incident that has raised fresh concerns over safety in public facilities.

The case came to light after the victim shared her experience on social media, describing how the ordeal unfolded when she entered a cubicle due to stomach discomfort.

“While I was inside, I suddenly noticed a pair of legs dangling from the opened ceiling above. It was a man,” she said, adding that she immediately screamed, forcing the suspect to flee.

The situation quickly escalated when auxiliary police officers stationed nearby managed to detain the suspect shortly after. A video circulating online shows two male officers and a female officer apprehending the individual.

According to the policewoman heard in the footage, the suspect is believed to have carried out similar acts previously and had already been under observation following complaints from other women.

It is understood that there is no CCTV coverage at the washroom entrance, prompting questions over security arrangements at the station.

The victim later shared images of the suspect’s arrest as a caution to others, urging women to remain alert in public spaces.

Online reaction has been swift, with many condemning the act as a serious form of sexual harassment and highlighting the risks faced by women in public toilets.

Speaking to Scoop, Sentul district police chief Basri Sagoni confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and remanded.

“The suspect has been apprehended and remanded today,” he briefly said when contacted.

The case is being probed under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which covers acts intended to insult a person’s modesty, with further charges possible pending investigations.

Initial findings indicate that the man gained access through the ceiling before attempting to peer into the cubicle.

The victim’s swift reaction is believed to have prevented the situation from escalating further. – April 17, 2026
