KUALA LUMPUR – The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) has issued a show-cause letter to Billion Stars Express Sdn Bhd following a viral video showing one of its drivers operating a bus in a reckless manner.
The 80-second clip, which surfaced on social media on April 16, showed the driver steering with one hand while reclining in his seat, triggering public concern over passenger safety.
In response, the company issued a public apology and confirmed that the driver was suspended immediately on the same day, pending investigations.
APAD said the notice, also issued on April 16, marks the start of formal proceedings against the operator, underscoring the agency’s firm stance on lapses in safety compliance.
The agency confirmed it is investigating the bus, registered as BSB 4999, for potential breaches under the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
The probe centres on three areas: driver conduct, failure to prioritise passenger and public safety, and non-compliance with Service Quality Requirements (KTP) related to professional conduct.
APAD said failure to provide a satisfactory explanation or demonstrate corrective measures could result in further action, including suspension or revocation of the operator’s licence under Section 27 of the Act.
It also urged the public to report misconduct or traffic violations involving public transport operators. – April 18, 2026
