KUALA LUMPUR — Emergency works are underway following a mudslide at Jalan Abang Haji Openg in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) yesterday, with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and relevant agencies moving swiftly to contain the situation.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said an emergency meeting was convened this morning, chaired by the Kuala Lumpur mayor and attended by all relevant authorities.
“An emergency meeting was convened this morning, chaired by the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, with all relevant agencies in attendance,” she said in a statement.
The Segambut MP added that immediate assistance has been mobilised, including support from the Public Works Department (JKR).
“I have requested immediate assistance and additional manpower from JKR headquarters to support ongoing crisis intervention efforts,” she said, adding that extra machinery has also been deployed to expedite repair works.
Mitigation and rectification measures are already underway at the site, including the construction of an additional sedimentation pond, upgrading the capacity of an existing pond, and desilting works. Authorities are also carrying out drainage maintenance, clearing collapsed structures, and coordinating traffic control.
“A control centre by DBKL has been established and will operate 24/7 during this period,” Hannah said, adding that flushing of drainage systems and ongoing cleaning works are in progress.
She noted that the development order for the project was issued on Oct 3, 2022, and confirmed that a stop-work order has been issued, with a compound imposed on the contractors involved following the incident.
Hannah added that all slope development projects around Bukit Kiara Federal Park will be reviewed in light of the mudslide. — April 19, 2026
