KUALA LUMPUR – The government will soon introduce further measures to assist individuals affected by the global supply crisis, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today.
Speaking to reporters after chairing a roundtable with financial sector representatives, Datuk Seri Anwar said the initiatives would include unemployed graduates and diploma holders, aiming to ensure their skills are utilised rather than wasted, Bernama reported.
“I will announce additional measures soon to assist those who were out of work, including unemployed graduates and diploma holders,” he said.
The session was attended by Bank Negara Malaysia governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour and Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican.
The government has previously implemented measures to ease the impact of the supply crisis, including maintaining petrol prices under the Budi Madani Ron95 (Budi95) programme and retaining diesel subsidies in Sabah and Sarawak.
Upcoming steps will see higher monthly assistance under the Agri-Commodity and BUDI Diesel programmes for individual diesel vehicle owners, farmers, and smallholders. Incentives for padi cultivation are also set to increase, alongside financing guarantees of up to RM5 billion to support micro, small and medium enterprises.
Malaysia’s unemployment rate stood at 2.9% in February 2026, with 506,800 people without work. – April 21, 2026
