KUALA LUMPUR — Lembaga Zakat Selangor (Zakat Selangor) has clarified that it has no connection to the alleged misappropriation of approximately RM230 million in zakat funds currently under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Chief executive Mohd Khaidzir Shahari said Zakat Selangor operates as the state’s official zakat institution under the supervision of the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) and is subject to legal provisions, governance systems, regulatory controls, and comprehensive checks and balances.
“The management of zakat funds goes through multiple layers of audit and monitoring, including internal audits, external audits, and reviews by the relevant authorities to ensure that every zakat fund is managed properly and under strict control.
“Zakat Selangor has taken note of media reports regarding the detention of several individuals linked to the alleged misappropriation of approximately RM230 million in zakat funds, which is currently being investigated by the authorities, and stresses that the reported case involves a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and has no connection whatsoever with Zakat Selangor or the management of zakat by this institution,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Khaidzir said Zakat Selangor maintains a firm stance against any form of misuse of zakat funds and ensures all funds are managed according to the established governance framework.
He added that the institution would not comment further as investigations are ongoing and advised the public to refer only to Zakat Selangor’s official channels for accurate information, as well as to fulfil zakat obligations through authorised platforms such as www.zakatselangor.com.my
.
“At the same time, all parties are reminded not to spread false information regarding this matter, as it could create confusion and undermine public confidence in zakat institutions,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pertubuhan Ikram Malaysia (Ikram) has suspended three of its members who were arrested by MACC in connection with the same investigation.
According to Malay Mail Online, two individuals, including the deputy chairman of a non-governmental organisation, were remanded for four days beginning today to assist in the probe.
In a statement, Ikram president Badlishah Sham Baharin said the organisation takes the matter seriously and is fully cooperating with MACC.
“As an administrative measure and without prejudice to any party, the individuals involved have been immediately relieved of all positions and responsibilities within the organisation,” he said.
“This step has been taken to ensure the smooth running and transparency of the investigation process.”
Badlishah stressed that the case concerns the actions of individuals and does not directly implicate the organisation as a whole.
However, he said firm disciplinary action would be taken if the members are found guilty, in order to protect Ikram’s integrity.
“Ikram fully respects the investigation process currently being carried out by the MACC and will continue to extend all appropriate cooperation,” he added.
The organisation said it would not comment further in order to respect the legal process and urged the public to allow the authorities space to complete their investigation.
Yesterday, Selangor MACC arrested three men in an operation across the Klang Valley.
A source said two men in their 50s and 60s were detained in the afternoon, while another man in his 50s was arrested when he appeared at the Selangor MACC office to provide a statement.
Media reports said MACC also seized 18 luxury vehicles, including a Porsche, Mercedes, Range Rover, and Honda Civic Type R, along with houses and other assets estimated to be worth around RM11 million.
The case is being investigated under the MACC Act 2009.
Established in 2009, Ikram is a dakwah, tarbiah, and welfare organisation that operates in line with Islamic teachings and values. – April 22, 2026
