KUALA LUMPUR — Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) has fully withdrawn the animated series Cleopatra in Space from broadcast following public complaints and feedback over content aired on TV2 on April 18 and 19.
The series had previously been scheduled every Saturday and Sunday at 9am.
In a statement, the national public broadcaster said the decision was made after receiving concerns from viewers regarding the programme’s content, which was alleged to contain elements related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) themes.
RTM said it had taken immediate action by stopping all broadcasts of the series and had also launched a thorough internal investigation into the content.
“As the country’s public broadcasting station, RTM reaffirms its commitment to continuously providing quality, safe content that complies with societal sensitivities, religion, and local cultural norms,” the statement said.
RTM added that it remains firmly committed to upholding principles of responsible broadcasting and ensuring programmes shown on its platforms are suitable for local audiences.
The broadcaster also expressed appreciation to viewers who raised concerns and provided constructive feedback, describing public input as important in helping improve the quality of its programming.
For the record, RTM had previously suspended the broadcast of the cartoon Santiago of the Seas following complaints over indirect LGBT-related elements in the animated programme. – April 22, 2026
