KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has recorded the statement of a woman suspected of disseminating false information concerning alleged diesel fuel supply to the Philippines.
In a statement, the commission said the individual, who was accompanied by her lawyer, had presented herself at its headquarters in Cyberjaya for questioning.
“MCMC also seized a mobile phone and a SIM card suspected of being used to upload the content, to assist in the investigation.
“This action was taken under Section 248 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” it said.
The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which carries a maximum penalty of a RM500,000 fine, up to two years’ imprisonment, or both upon conviction.
MCMC reiterated that it views seriously the misuse of social media and digital platforms to circulate misleading content that could deceive the public.
“Firm enforcement action will be taken against any party found to have violated the law and undermined public order,” it added. — April 24, 2026
