KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has thrown his support behind Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun to remain as Menteri Besar, even as the political crisis in Negeri Sembilan intensifies with rival blocs claiming the numbers to form a new state government.
Anwar said he had an audience with state ruler Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir last night, during which both agreed that Aminuddin should continue discharging his duties to ensure administrative stability, safeguard public interests, and uphold the rule of law.
“I am confident, based on his experience and service, that he will continue to carry out his responsibilities effectively,” Anwar said in a statement today.
The PKR president’s position comes amid escalating uncertainty in the state after Barisan Nasional (BN) claimed it now holds a simple majority with backing from Perikatan Nasional (PN) assemblymen to form a new government.
The development followed the withdrawal of support by all 14 Umno-BN assemblymen from Aminuddin’s administration, leaving the Pakatan Harapan-led government without a clear majority in the 36-seat state assembly.
Complicating matters further are tensions involving Negeri Sembilan’s royal institution, including disputes linked to the Undang Yang Empat (chieftains), adding a constitutional dimension to the political impasse.
Against this backdrop, Anwar stressed that issues involving the Undang are being addressed through proper legal processes and the wisdom of the institution, while the federal government will continue to extend full cooperation to ensure economic continuity and public wellbeing.
He also urged the public, particularly in Negeri Sembilan, to remain measured and respectful when discussing matters involving the monarchy and state laws.
“In any situation, the sanctity of the royal institution and the state’s legal framework must be preserved,” he said. – April 28, 2026
