Pakatan condemns Umno revolt in Negeri Sembilan, says govt intact with Anwar’s backing

Coalition calls move a betrayal as the country grapples with global supply challenges

KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan has condemned the withdrawal of support by 14 Umno-Barisan Nasional assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan for state Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, labelling the move a betrayal and rejecting any attempt to wrest control of the state government.

In a statement today, its communications director, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, said the action clearly contravened the spirit of cooperation within the unity government and was not grounded in any failure of leadership at the state level.

“Pakatan Harapan firmly rejects the ‘backdoor attempt’ by Umno-BN to take over the administration, especially when the move had no connection to the performance of the Menteri Besar.

“The action was taken without regard for the people’s welfare, at a time when the unity government and the country are facing global supply challenges, and working to stabilise the economy and reduce the rakyat’s burden,” said Fahmi.

He maintained that the Negeri Sembilan government under Aminuddin remains intact and continues to function as usual, adding that this position has been conveyed to the state ruler.

The coalition also reaffirmed its commitment to support the state leadership in ensuring economic stability and safeguarding public welfare, while upholding the role and sanctity of the Malay rulers.

The statement comes amid escalating tensions in Negeri Sembilan following claims by Barisan Nasional that it has secured a simple majority in the state assembly, raising questions over the durability of the current administration.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has publicly backed Aminuddin’s leadership, signalling federal support for the continuity of the state government despite the unfolding power struggle. – April 28, 2026
