KUALA LUMPUR – The police (PDRM) will take appropriate steps to verify claims that fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low, was in the country at the end of last year.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said authorities had yet to confirm the authenticity of the allegations, Bernama reported.

“We have not been able to verify the extent of the authenticity. Appropriate action will be taken to determine whether the matter is true or otherwise.

“Investigations are still ongoing, and it is our responsibility to ensure the process is carried out properly and smoothly,” he told reporters during the Autism Day celebration organised by the Pengaman-PDRM Autism Centre at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (PULAPOL) today.

His remarks follow a Sarawak Report article claiming Jho Low attended a secret meeting in Malaysia with a Chinese delegation late last year.

Mohd Khalid added that PDRM would issue an official statement if there were any new developments.

Earlier, he spent time with children at the Pengaman-PDRM Autism Centre, which provides educational facilities and support for police personnel and the local community.

He noted that the centre, which currently supports around 50 children, receives full assistance from PDRM through facilities and welfare funds to help ease the financial burden on affected families.

Committee chairman Tan Sri Hussin Ismail said the centre had expanded rapidly since its establishment in 2020, with support from various parties. – May 16, 2026
