KUALA LUMPUR — Former senior PKR leaders Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad have officially taken the helm of Parti Bersama Malaysia (PBM), a move that could reshape the nation’s political dynamics.
The leadership transition was unveiled at a special gathering at the Petaling Jaya Performing Arts Centre, bringing an end to weeks of speculation over the political trajectory of both figures. Over the past year, both Rafizi and Nik Nazmi had been increasingly perceived as marginalised within the People’s Justice Party (PKR).
PBM, initially registered as the Malaysian United Party, was founded in Penang in 2016. Its rebranding and new leadership signal a potentially significant pivot in the party’s ambitions and the wider opposition landscape.
More developments are expected as Rafizi and Nik Nazmi outline their strategy and vision for the party. – May 17, 2026
