KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad have officially resigned as the Members of Parliament for Pandan and Setiawangsa, respectively, in a move they described as part of a new political direction.
Their resignations are effective today.
In a joint statement issued today, both leaders confirmed that resignation letters had been submitted to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
They said they had decided to vacate their parliamentary seats as they intended to pursue what they described as a “new political agenda” under the Parti Bersama Malaysia (PBM) platform.
“We believe this is the right and honourable step to return the mandate to the voters of Pandan and Setiawangsa, as we were elected under the Pakatan Harapan banner during the last general election,” the statement read.
Rafizi and Nik Nazmi also thanked constituents in both parliamentary seats for the trust and support given to them over the past two terms.
They assured voters that their respective service centres would continue operating as usual to assist residents and handle constituency matters.
The duo further announced that they intend to contest again for the Pandan and Setiawangsa seats under the Bersama banner in the next election.
However, they did not provide further details regarding PBM or when the election would take place.
They first announced their intent to vacate their seats and quit PKR yesterday at a special event, stressing that they were not party-hopping.
An official from the Dewan Rakyat Speaker’s Office, meanwhile, confirmed to The Star that it had received formal notice of the vacancies for the Pandan and Setiawangsa parliamentary seats.
The news portal said an official told it that resignation notices from Rafizi and Nik Nazmi had been received this afternoon. – May 18, 2026
